James W. Bigler, 91, of Goshen, died Thursday, June 2, 2011, at IU Health Goshen Hospital. He was born July 30, 1919 in Goshen to the late Pierre and Celeste (Johnson) Bigler. He married Dorothy E. Whirledge on January 31, 1948, in Middlebury. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Connie Sue Myers and Judy Kay (Nevin) Honderich, both of Goshen; two sons, Steven Leon (Nancy) Bigler of Goshen, and Timothy James (Jerrie) Bigler of Kirksey, Kentucky; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Philip Bigler of Goshen. He was preceded by a great-grandson, Asher Myers; and brothers, Frederick "Fritz", Pierre "Junior", and Maxwell Bigler. A lifetime resident of Goshen he was a member of First English Lutheran Church and the Goshen DAV. A U.S. Army veteran of WWII, he served in the European Theater. Friends may call 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, June 5, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Monday. A 10 a.m., Monday, June 6, 2011, funeral service will be conducted at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home with Pastor Gene Hollingsworth of First English Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will follow in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to Courtyard Healthcare Activities.
