Jacob Gonsalves

October 28, 1929 — June 6, 2016

Jacob Gonsalves, 86, of Elkhart, died Monday, June 6, at IU Health Goshen Hospital.  He had been ill several weeks.

He was born the second child of eleven Oct. 28, 1929 in Noakhali, Bangladesh to Alfred Gonsalves and Teresa Rodrigues.

On Feb. 22, 1954 he married Jerleth D’Costa in Bangladesh.

She survives along with six children, Julius (Madhurima) Gonsalves, Jersey City, New Jersey, Juliet (Hans) Green, Elkhart, Jacinta (Gary) Burger, Kokomo, James (Elaine) Gonsalves and Julian (Bably) Gonsalves, both of Goshen and John (Katherine) Gonsalves, Elkhart; eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an older sister, Catherine Dias.

He will be remembered for his generosity and faith. He was very involved in the Noakhali Catholic Church and his influence will continue to prosper. Jacob was a Catholic High School Principal for 35 years, teaching many great leaders, and was highly respected in Bangladesh.

Friends may call Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral mass at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.  Rev. Father Tony Steinaker will officiate.

Burial will follow in Violett Cemetery, Goshen.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. John’s Church.
