Jacob Henry “Jake” Flisher, Jr., of Goshen, died peacefully in his sleep on September 22, 2023 at age of 96.
He was born April 27, 1927 in Nampa, Idaho to Jacob Henry Flisher, and Ina (Berry) Flisher.
Jake was married to Arvilla Miller, August 29, 1952 in Kalona, Iowa. She preceded him in death in 1998.
He is survived by four daughters, Mary Ina Hooley (Don) of Bluffton, Ohio, Judy Ginger (John) of Eugene, Oregon, Sylvia Blaser (Dennis) of Caledonia, Illinois and Jeanette Hunt (Randy) of Millersville, Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren; four step grandchildren; four great grandchildren, and 14 step great grandchildren.
His education included lab technician training at St. Luke's Hospital, Nampa, Idaho then Hesston College, Hesston, Kansas, Northwest Nazarene College, Nampa, Idaho, Goshen College, Goshen, and Goshen Biblical Seminary, Goshen.
In 1953 Jake and Arvilla became missionaries in Central India with Mennonite Board of Missions, where they worked until 1975. His work included lab technician and administrator of Dhamtari Christian Hospital. As an ordained minister, he pastored in several village churches. In 1975 they moved to Hannibal, Missouri, where Jake became administrator of Beth Haven Nursing Home where he worked until his retirement in 1995. In Hannibal he was a member of Rotary Club.
In 2000 he moved to Greencroft Retirement Center, Goshen, where he lived up until his death. While in Goshen he was a member of College Mennonite Church.
A graveside service will be held October 20, 2023 at Pea Ridge Mennonite Cemetery, Philadelphia, Missouri, where he will be buried next to his wife.
