Jack Benton Shaffer

Jack Benton Shaffer, 72, of Goshen, died Tuesday evening, July 10, 2007, at his home.  He had been ill since January of this year. He was born in Salem, Illinois, to Eura and Reta (Denham) Shaffer on December 1, 1934.  He married Virginia M. Schmidt on December 25, 1955.  She preceded him on April 15, 1998.  He then married Joan (Anglemyer) Cannon, on April 11, 1999, in Goshen.  She survives.  A Goshen resident for 56 years, Mr. Shaffer, worked at Goshen Rubber, T & M, Mobul Rubber, and HHI Wholesale until his retirement in 1998.  After retirement he worked at Goshen Middle School, 2000 to 2003; and drove shuttle for Goshen General Hospital from 2003 to 2006.  Mr. Shaffer was a member of First Brethren Church, where he served as Senior Ministry pastor; and American Legion. He enjoyed horseback riding, golf and camping.  He is survived by his wife, Joan; three daughters, Susan (Randy) Phillips of Cromwell, Indiana, Myra Shaffer of Venice, Florida and Paula (Kenneth) Metzler of Goshen; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Betty (Henry) Seidner of Goshen and Lucy (Edward) Kuhns of Anchorage, Alaska. He was preceded in death by his first wife and a brother, Terry W. Shaffer.  Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, July 12, and one hour prior to the service at the church. A 10:30 a.m., funeral service will be conducted at First Brethren Church, Goshen, on Friday, July 13, 2007.  Pastor John Drexler will officiate.  Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be given to First Brethren Church for the Jack Shaffer Memorial Bible Fund.
