Jack M. Joldersma, 86, of Goshen, died early Sunday morning, June 5, 2011, at Courtyard Healthcare after an extended illness with Parkinson's disease. He was born in New Castle, Indiana on March 12, 1925 to the late Lambert and Cornelia (Rypkema) Joldersma. He married Lois M. Disselkoen on April 3, 1948 in Hebron. She died June 24, 1994. He then married Jean Darland on May 26, 2001. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Charlotte (Greg) Hoogenboom of Goshen, and Marilyn Jean (Tim) Westergren of Madrid, Spain; five sons, Roy Allen (Brigitte) Joldersma, Daniel Greg (Donna) Joldersma, Gerald Paul (Audra) Joldersma and Glen Eric (Rebecca) Joldersma, all of Goshen and David Kent (Janice) Joldersma of Elkhart; three step-children, Debbie (Rodney) Carpenter of Goshen, Jamie Darland of Indianapolis and Tracy (Keena) Darland of North Carolina; 11 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Phillip Hoogenboom and Tyler Joldersma and a brother, Norma Joldersma. A Goshen resident since 1936, Mr. Joldersma worked in sales at Teune Home Improvement. He had also worked at Chore Time in Milford. He attended Purdue University but left to join the US Navy during WWII. He worked on a Navy Repair ship and served in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of the Greene Road Church, Goshen, where he taught Sunday School and served as an Elder. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, June 9, and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home. A 10 a.m., Friday, June 10, 2011, funeral service will be conducted at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Pastor John Wanders of Greene Road Church will officiate. Burial will follow in West Goshen Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Greene Road Church, to the VFW Post #985, or Alzheimer/PD Research. The family would like to thank Compassionate Caregivers for their excellent care, especially Tammy Wyland.
