Jack A. Hertig, 76, of Goshen died Friday, September 1, 2017 at the Center for Hospice Care, Elkhart.
He was born January 9, 1941 in Wayland, Iowa to Allen D. and Iola (Hite) Hertig.
On August 25, 1963 he married Ruthann Nisley at Rock Run Church of the Brethren, Goshen.
She survives along with two daughters, Susan (Harry) Hochstetler of Goshen and Stephanie (Mark) Richard of Omaha, Nebraska, and five grandchildren.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Hertig, and a grandchild.
Jack was a member of Silverwood Mennonite Church and former vice president of Schultz Homes. He was very active in the local construction industry serving on the board of the Elkhart Career Center’s Building Trades course for 35 years. He also served in many positions on the Elkhart County Home Builder’s Association. He was recognized nationally as home builder of the month in 1984. He continued to work as long as he was able, owning and operating Jack Hertig Building and Remodeling.
Visitation will be Sunday, Sept. 3, 2017, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Silverwood Mennonite Church, 1712 W. Clinton Street, Goshen, and one hour prior to the 10 a.m. funeral service Monday, Sept. 4, 2017, also at the church. Pastor Donna Mast will officiate.
Cremation will take place at Yoder-Culp Crematory and interment at Silverwood Mennonite Church will be at a later date.
Memorial gifts may be directed to the church.
