Ivan “Max” N. Makximenko, 77, of Nappanee died Friday, June 9, 2023 at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.
He was born February 6, 1946 in Villach, Austria.
Ivan is survived by two daughters, Michelle (Rodney) Schrock of Goshen and Staci (Kevin) Goss of Nappanee; five grandchildren, Kirsten, Breanna, Kira, Collin and Bella; a sister, Valia West of Auburn; a brother, Victor (Betsey) Makximenko of Bedford; his mother, Maria (Honcharenko) Makximenko of Goshen; and former wife, Nancy (Pressler) Smith also of Goshen.
He was preceded in death by his father, Nickolai Makximenko and his wife, Connie (Schrock) Makximenko.
Ivan was a 1964 graduate of Goshen High School where he was active in basketball, tennis and baseball. He held the record for the most triples hit in a season. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 1969 from Ball State University. After college he pitched semi-pro baseball in Muncie.
He grew up attending Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Goshen and was a skilled craftsman working as a self-employed brick mason. He also worked as an insurance salesman for Bankers Life & Casualty, several other local companies, and was most recently employed with MasterBrand in 2004.
Ivan enjoyed spending time with his family and attending grandchildren’s events, especially the birthday parties and birthday cake.
Visitation will be Monday, June 12, 2023 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home where a 7 p.m. Panachyda service will be conducted.
A 10 a.m. funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 61314 C.R. 21, Goshen, with visitation beginning at 9 a.m.
Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery, Goshen.
