Ivan D. Gingerich, 77, of Goshen, passed away Sunday, November 6, 2016,at his home. He had been ill since April.
He was born September 22, 1939, in Milford to David and Rose (Yoder) Gingerich.
On November 2, 1968 he married Thelma Harshberger. She died April 19, 1996. On June 2, 2001 he then married Alma (Schmucker) Eash.
She survives along with five children, Rose (Darren) Bickle of Goshen, Mark (Marie) Gingerich of Ft. Defiance, Virginia, Sharon (Jeff) Perry of Mishawaka, Dwayne Eash of Lansing, Michigan and Bryan Eash of Goshen; six grandchildren; and two brothers, Mahlon (Laura) Gingerich of Spooner, Wisconsin and Harold Gingerich of Howe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, a brother, Melvin and a sister, Mildred.
A lifelong New Paris and Goshen resident, Mr. Gingerich enjoyed gardening and as an accomplished handy man, he helped many folks with remodeling projects.
He did his 1W service at a mental hospital in Laurelville, Pennsylvania where he gardened and assisted in the care of patients.
He was an active member of North Goshen Mennonite Church where he volunteered in many activities, including the children’s carnival. He helped register RVs during the annual relief sales and volunteered with disaster work following Katrina. Friends may call Thursday, November 10, 2016, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.
He was a fan of major league baseball, especially the Chicago Cubs.
A 10 a.m., Friday, November 11, 2016, funeral service will be conducted at North Goshen Mennonite Church. Pastor Mark Schloneger will officiate.
Burial will follow in Miller 8 Square Cemetery.
