Irma J. “Sis” Barker, 82, of Goshen, died Saturday afternoon, June 6, 2009, at The Maples at Waterford Crossing. She was born on December 30, 1926, in Goshen, to Dr. H.P. and Irma J. (Gortner) Bowser. She married Philip C. Barker on September 10, 1949, in Goshen. He preceded her in death on January 14, 1999. A homemaker, Mrs. Barker, graduated from Goshen High School in 1944, where she was named Outstanding Senior Girl, and from Indiana University at Bloomington in 1948. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Goshen; Maplecrest Country Club; Beacon Lights Club; and an associate member of Tri-Kappa. She is survived by two daughters, Susan (L.W.) Smith and Nancy A. (David) Peters; three sons, Philip Charles (Lynne Ann) Barker, Bruce G. Barker, and Dr. Robert E. (Shari) Barker, all of Goshen; 13 grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Katherine “toddy” Bowser of Goshen. She was preceded in death by her brother, Dr. Philip Bowser on December 13, 2000. Friends may call 10 to 11 a.m., Friday, June 12, at the First Presbyterian Church, Goshen. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., June 12, 2009, at the First Presbyterian Church, Goshen. Burial will be at a later date in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to the Goshen Boys and Girls Club.
