Irma I. Matson, 96, of South Bend, died Monday afternoon August 26, 2013, at Center for Hospice Care, Roseland, where she recently had been admitted. She lived in Elkhart for many years and then lived with her daughter in South Bend. She was born August 24, 1917 to Harvey E. and Delta L. (Kintigh) Wagner in New Paris. On December 20, 1941, she married Elmer Raymond Matson at Sunnymede Church of God in South Bend. He preceded her in death on Jan. 15, 2010. Surviving are two daughters, Rae Jeaniene Matson of South Bend, and Sheryl M. Fields of Lake Ann, Michigan; two grandsons, Jeremy and Kevin Fields; three great grandchildren, Cody, Zach, and Laira Fields; a great-great grandson, Brycen Fields; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Geiger of Angola, and Katheryn Wagner of Florida; and many nieces and nephews. Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Dale, Clifford, Robert, Richard, and Francis Wagner; and a sister, Audrie Myers. Mrs. Matson was a member of First Church of God, Elkhart. She attended Bethany Christian High School in Goshen. She had worked at Ball Band, Woolworth's, and Kresge's, and worked for several families in River Park before her marriage. Her family and friends remember her for her special caring and kindness to everyone. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, prior to the 1 p.m. funeral service. Rev. Greg Crump, South Side Church of God, South Bend, will officiate. Burial will follow at Violett Cemetery, Goshen.
