Irene Evelyn Schrag

Irene Evelyn Schrag, 96, of Goshen, passed away Monday, January 25, 2021 at Greencroft Healthcare.

She was born December 12, 1924 in Hurley, South Dakota to Adolph and Nettie (Wittrig) Preheim.

On May 29, 1946, she married Harley Schrag in Freeman, South Dakota, in the Salem Mennonite Church.  He died in June 1992.

She is survived by four daughters, Jean (Hesston) Lauver, Charlotte Sprunger and Rosalie Schrag, all of Goshen and Eloise Schrag of Rochester, New York; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a sister, Marilyn Rose of Iowa City, Iowa.

Along with her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Norman Schrag.

A life long farmer, Irene also taught in a one room country school for a short period of time.  Irene happily shared her gift of hospitality hosting, cooking and baking for family and friends.  She enjoyed quilting, embroidery and volunteer work.

Services will take place at a later date in Freeman, South Dakota.

Memorial donations may be given to Mennonite Central Committee or Salem-Zion Mennonite Church, Freeman, South Dakota.
