Irene M. Elliot

Irene M. Elliot, 86, of Morganton, North Carolina, died Wednesday morning, July 23, 2008, at the home of her son.  She had been in declining health the past 18 months. She was born in Bristol, Indiana, on July 8, 1922, to Cecil and Bessie (Wagley) Garver.  She married Howard N. Elliot on October 24, 1942, in Joplin, Missouri.  He preceded her in death on October 25, 2000. A homemaker and piano teacher, Mrs. Elliot graduated from Jefferson High School in 1940 and spent most of her life in the Elkhart County area.  She was a member of the First Brethren Church, Goshen where she served as deaconess, served on the kitchen committee, played the piano and sang in the choir.  Along with her husband, she did church visitation to shut ins. She is survived by two daughters, Alice (Tom) Zollinger of Elkhart and Marilyn Bisson of Goshen; a son, Larry (June) Elliot of Morganton, North Carolina; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; two great-great-grandchildren; two step- great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gale Garver of White Pigeon, Michigan, and Robert Garver of Bristol. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard; and a sister, Irma Gardner. Friends may call 2 to 6 p.m., Sunday, July 27 at the funeral home. A 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 28, 2008 funeral service will be conducted at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.  Pastor John Drexler of First Brethren Church, Goshen, will officiate. Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to First Brethren Church.
