Ina Latta Strasser, 90, of Goshen, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, January 6, 2011, surrounded by her family. She was born in Goshen on April 27, 1920 to Milton and Frances Slate Latta. After graduating with a BA in education from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, she married Richard Strasser on August 21, 1943 and they moved back to Goshen where they spent their entire lives together raising a family and involving themselves in the community. Ina was a member of Tri Kappa and Philomathians and delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. In 1981 she published “The Gleam”, an autobiography written by her grandmother, Ina Slate, which chronicles life in Goshen in the early 1900’s. One of her greatest joys in life was traveling and exploring the world, adventuring into Africa, Europe, Asia and South America, as well as many unusual and exotic locations. But her favorite place was her home in the Cayman Islands where she spent winters enjoying the beach with friends and family. Ina is survived by her husband, Richard, and their three children, Jennifer Downs of Ashland, Oregon, Linda Hubley of Boulder, Colorado, and Susan Strasser of Syracuse. She was the grandmother of five grandchildren, Christopher Downs, Sara, Tyson and Miles Hubley, and Angela Caldwell. She is also survived by her sister, Julia Dietz, of Austin, Texas. The family will hold a private burial service at Violett cemetery. In memory of Ina, contributions, in lieu of flowers, can be sent to Goshen Care at Home Hospice, P.O. Box 723, Goshen 46527.
