Ilse Ruth Hodel Yoder, 70. Of Goshen died early Friday morning, May 28, 2010 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend. She was born in Peoria, Illinois on December 15, 1939 to John P. and Esther (Smucker) Hodel. She married Larry Richard Yoder on August 12, 1967, in Morton, Illinois. He survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Erika (Tom) Meyer of Huntertown and Laura (Jason) Moshier of Indianapolis; four grandchildren, Ruby and Henry Meyer and Simon and Landon Moshier; and two brothers, Paul (Barbara) Hodel of Maumee, Ohio, and Ernest Hodel of Indianapolis. Mrs. Yoder graduated from Morton Township High School in 1958, Goshen College in 1962, Indiana University with a Master’s degree in 1966, and in 1997 she received her Master’s in Theological Studies from Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminaries. Her career included work at University of Heidelburg, Germany, from 1964 to 65; math teacher at Whiteman Junior High School, Goshen, from 1966-67; microbiology instructor at IUPU, Fort Wayne 1967-68; and Marion Technical College, Ohio from 1972-73. Since 1873 she was a LaLeche League leader and Leader Reserve. Since 1993 she worked as a Breastfeeding Counselor at WIC for the Elkhart County Health Department. Her priorities included being mother and mentor. Friends may call 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, May 31, at East Goshen Mennonite Church where a funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 1, 2010. Pastor Steve Slagel will officiate. Memorial contributions may be given to East Goshen Mennonite Church, Goshen College or Associate Mennonite Biblical Seminaries.
