Dr. Humberto Pérez Pancorbo, 85, of Goshen, passed away at his home in Goshen, Sunday, December 9, 2018.
He was born September 16, 1933 to Hernan and Eudocia Pérez in San Jose, Costa Rica.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Solano; five children, Marianela (Carlos Wille) Pėrez, Margaret (Francisco) Ramirez, Giovanni (Joselyn) Pérez, Diana (Joel Barcenas) Pérez, and Ivannia (Ben) Graber; and eight grandchildren.
Humberto was a well-educated man, receiving degrees from Instituto Panamericano, Panama; Dakota Wesleyan University; Boston University; and a Ph.D. in education from the University of Notre Dame.
He dedicated his entire life to teaching and the education of others in Panama, Costa Rica as well as the United States, where he was a professor at Goshen College and Ohio University.
Humberto was a dedicated patron of the arts. He valued all forms of creative expression; he had a great appreciation of music, painting, and literature. He played piano until the end of his days, with joy, remembering his favorite tunes even when all else was gone.
Humberto was a man who lived art passionately, shared of himself liberally, and educated everyone he met. We were lucky to have him, and his loss will be felt.
Visitation will be Friday, December 14, 2018, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and one hour prior to the Saturday, 10 a.m., funeral service at College Mennonite Church, where he was a member. Rev. Frank Ramirez will officiate.
