Howard A. Taft

Howard A. Taft, 91, formerly of Goshen, died Thursday, December 29, 2022 at Chapman Place, Fort Wayne.

He was born December 19, 1931 in Des Moines, Iowa to George and Hazel (Hendrickson) Taft.

Survivors include two daughters, Laura (Don) Hamm of Shipshewana and Lisa Taft of Goshen; two sons, Steven (Katherine) Taft of Goshen and Robert Taft of Fort Wayne; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three step-children; a sister, Judith (Paul) Minnick of Deland, Florida; and a brother, Jerry Taft of Goshen.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Maradee (Biddle) Taft; second wife, Sarah (Ostrander) Albaugh Taft; and sisters, Donna French and infant, Gloria Taft.

A 1949 graduate of Goshen High School, Howard attended Ball State University, Muncie one year prior to joining the U.S. Army.

He attended St. James Episcopal Church and was an entrepreneur. Howard owned and operated his own Bait and Tackle Shop in Syracuse for 10 years; worked in insurance sales; and was a part owner and CFO of Sprinter R.V.

A family graveside service is planned for Oakridge Cemetery, Goshen.
