Hollis D. Steele, 87, of Warsaw and formerly of Goshen died Thursday, December 31, 2015 at IU Health Goshen Hospital.
He was born June 5, 1928 in Middlebury to John and Treva (Shrock) Steele.
On January 9, 1949 he married Grace Clark. She preceded him in death February 27, 2015.
Survivors include a son, Douglas (Coleen) Steele of Wakarusa; a daughter, Kim (Clarence) VanFleeren of New Paris; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Joan (George) Swihart of Austin, Colorado.
Prior to his marriage, he went to Poland on a cattle boat after WWII with Heifer Project.
Hollis was an independent truck driver before his retirement. He enjoyed raising and training horses, a love which he shared with his family. With his wife Grace, he gave horse drawn hayrides at Eby Pines and drove horse drawn trams at the Elkhart County fairgrounds.
According to his wishes, cremation will take place at Yoder-Culp Crematory.
A graveside memorial service will be held Friday, January 8, 2016 at 10 a.m. at Rock Run Cemetery, Goshen.
