Herman Hershberger, 80, died early Monday morning, November 30, 2009, at his home in New Paris.  He had been ill this past year. He was born to Delbert and Elizabeth (Priem) Hershberger on December 17, 1928, in Elkhart, Indiana.  He married Maryellen Shipman on April 19, 1947; she preceded him in death on October 10, 1988.  He then married Nerrissha “Carol” Richards on August 14, 1994, in New Paris.  Mr. Hershberger worked as a journeyman for Uniroyal for 38.5 years.  He was a member of the New Paris Missionary Church, the Goshen D.A.V., the Millersburg American Legion; he also served in the U.S. Army Air Force.  He was a foster parent for 25 years and he adopted 15 children. He is survived by six sons, Danny (Jamie) Hershberger, Florida, Dwayne (Cindy) Hershberger, South Bend, Douglas (Linda) Hershberger, Osceola, Delton Hershberger, Three Rivers, Michigan, Donald (Pam) Hershberger, South Bend, Richard Hershberger; two daughters, Debbie Cannon, South Bend, Alicia Hershberger, New Paris; three brothers, Clarence (Juanita) Hershberger, Herbert (Grace) Hershberger, both of Deland Springs, Florida, Paul (Betty) Hershberger, Jimtown; one sister, Marie Shiley, Deland Springs, Florida; three step-children Charles (Cindi) Myers, Bristol, Joseph Myers, Avilla, Benjamin (Karen) Myers, Garret; 32 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by one daughter, Dolly Hershberger.  Friends may call from 12-1 p.m., Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.  A 1 p.m., Wednesday, December 2, funeral service will be conducted at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.  The Rev. John Hackney of the New Paris Missionary Church will officiate.  Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery, South Bend.  A 3 p.m., Wednesday, December 2, graveside service will be provided by the Osceola American Legion Post 308 Color Guard.  Memorials may be made out to Care at Home Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
