Helen I. Washington, 81, of Goshen, passed away early Sunday evening, July 7, at IU Health Goshen Hospital, after a brief illness. She was born on February 26, 1932 in Cadott, Wisconsin to Albert and Dorothy Knitter. She married Jack D. Washington on June 13, 1953 in Cadott. He preceded her in death on June 14, 2010. She is survived by two daughters, Cheryl (Bill Rankinen) Spero, of Conneaut, Ohio, Karen (Skip) Boyer, of Goshen; seven grandchildren, Matthew (Heidi) Spero, Michelle Spero, Shane (Amy) Boyer, Brooke (Jared) Keplinger, Isaiah (Chloe) Boyer, Deborah (Rev. Ryan) Wofford, Bethany Boyer; 16 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Thelma Josifek, of Wisconsin, and Betty (Clifford) of Evjen, Minnisota. She was preceded in death by her parents. Helen and Jack moved to Goshen soon after they were married, and after working for two and a half years she became a full time mother and homemaker. She was a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW, and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She enjoyed camping and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a special relationship with her neighbors Rodney and Tara Wortinger and their sons Noah and Parker. They considered Helen a "second grandma." Friends may call from 4-6 p.m., Thursday, July 11, 2013 at Yoder-Culp Funeral where a 6 p.m. funeral service will be held. Pastor Jason Kincaid of First Assembly of God, Goshen will officiate. A private family burial will be at Violett Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Goshen Home Care & Hospice.
