Helen M. Markley

Helen M. Markley, 106, of Goshen, died late Thursday afternoon, September 7, 2006, at Greencroft Healthcare.   She was born July 17, 1900 in Gravelton, Indiana, to Jesse and Rosa Anne (Whittle) Stump.  She married Harvey O. Markley on December 25, 1936, in Marshall County.  He died November 7, 1992.   Mrs. Markley, a homemaker and a lifetime area resident, worked at Western Rubber until the mid 1950’s.  She wintered at Bowles Creek in Bradenton, Florida for 15 years.   A member of the Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church, Mrs. Markley was recognized by the Council on Aging of Elkhart County as a Centenarian Honoree on May 16, 2003.  On July 17, at Greencroft, a reception was held in honor of her 106th birthday.  She had a wonderful sense of humor and she loved collecting and gifting shells.  She also enjoyed crocheting, traveling and music.   She is survived by two grandchildren, Dennis (Elaine) Fountain of South Bend and Cynthia (Frank) Yaggi, Tucson, Arizona; four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren;; four step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.    Friends will be received 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, September 10 at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.   An 11:30 a.m., Monday, September 11, 2006, funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home.  Rev. Russ Hunsberger and Rev. George Nantz will officiate.   Burial will be in Oakridge Cemetery, Goshen.   Memorial contributions may be made to the Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church for Missions.
