Helen Dorothy Leichty, 97, of Goshen, died Monday morning, March 31, 2008 at Greencroft Healthcare, Goshen. She was born in West Liberty, Ohio, on December 12, 1910, to Jacob G. and Iva Grace (Yoder) Yoder. She married David Franklin Leichty on June 28, 1931 in Bellefontaine, Ohio. He preceded her in death on March 1, 1988. A homemaker, Mrs. Leichty moved to Goshen in 1955 from West Liberty, Ohio. She was a member of the College Mennonite Church; a volunteer at Goshen General Hospital; and worked as a switchboard operator at Goshen College for 12 years. She is survived by three daughters, Genevieve (Earl) Schwartzentruber and Delia (Ed) Herr, both of Goshen, and Evelyn (Michael) Hostetler of San Diego, California; two sons, David (Carolyn) Leichty, Jr. and Warren Leichty, both of Goshen; 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Maxine (Yoder) Laing of Grove City, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, David; a son, Samuel B. Leichty; a daughter, Katherine Lou Mullett and two brothers, Philip E. and August C. Yoder. Friends may call 1 to 2:30 p.m., Saturday, April 19 in the Gathering Room at College Mennonite Church, Goshen, where a memorial service is set to begin at 2:30 p.m. Pastors Klaudia Smucker and Rose Witmer will officiate. A family prayer service and burial will be held prior to the visitation and memorial service. Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to Mennonite Central Committee, Mennonite Mission Network or Care at Hope Hospice.
