Helen R. Bowman

Helen R. Bowman, 90, of Goshen, died early Tuesday morning, February 15, 2011, at IU Health Goshen Hospital where she had been three days. She was born in Goshen on July 11, 1920 to the late Homer and Helen (Peterson) Kelsey.  She married Paul Warren Bowman on September 26, 1959.  He died September 4, 2006. She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Sue Bowman of Howell, Michigan, and Bonnie Jo Alfrey of Goshen; a son, Jon Michael (Diana) Stump of Goshen; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Eleanor Spitzer of Willits, California, and Phyllis (Walter) Tittman of Fort Wayne. She was preceded in death by a son, Steven Warren Bowman and a brother, Homer Kelsey, Jr. A charter member of Jefferson Brethren Church, she was well known for her lovely flower gardens where she grew an abundance of colors and varieties of flowering plants.  Her most important role was as a nurturing mother and grandmother. Friends may call 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, February 17at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A private family service will be conducted on Friday, February 18, 2011, with Pastor Ron Spyker officiating.  Burial will be at Oakridge Cemetery, Goshen. Memorials may be made to Jefferson Brethren Church.
