Harvey C. Bontrager, 92, of Goshen, died at his home Saturday afternoon, Dec. 13, 2014. He was born April 26, 1922 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, to Henry R. and Clara J. (Schrock) Bontrager. On July 23, 1945 he married Joan Tucker in Gorseinon, South Wales. She died Aug. 8, 2007. Surviving are three sons, Gwyn (Marsha) Bontrager, of Shipshwana, Gari (Vicki) Bontrager, of Denver, Colorado, and Gregory (Robin) Bontrager, of Dyersburg, Tennessee; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Bontrager, of Goshen; and a brother Floyd Bontrager, of Mishawaka. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three sisters, Susan Kauffman, Esther and Elizabeth Bontrager; and three brothers, Jonas, Albert and Rudy Bontrager. A WWII Army veteran, Harvey served at D-Day in Normandy, France and was awarded a purple heart. After the war Harvey was employed at Goshen Rubber for 43 years. He was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church, a life member of the V.F.W., and charter member of the WWII Museum in New Orleans, La. Friends may call Tues. Dec. 16, 2014, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. Wed., Dec. 17, 2014 funeral service at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, Goshen. Rev. Susan Martin will officiate. Interment with military honors will be at 1:30 p.m. Wed., Dec. 17, 2014 at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Mark's United Methodist Church or Goshen Home Care and Hospice.
