Harry E. Botts, 84, of Goshen, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Monday morning, July 5, 2010. He was born in Millersburg, on May 4, 1926, to the late Ora and Elva (Gary) Botts. He married Gabriele “Gaby” Schühler on June 24, 1948, in Bamberg, Germany. She survives. Also surviving are his children, Inge (Greg) Longpre of Stevensville, Mich., and Mark D. (Kim) Botts of Syracuse; three grandchildren, Chad (Amanda), Brad (Rachel) and Ryan Botts; and two great-grandchildren, Abby and Logan Botts. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Tom and Richard Botts. A lifelong resident of the area, Mr. Botts served with the US Army during World War II from 1946 to 1948 and during the Korean War from 1950 to 1951. He was the owner and operator of Church Furniture, Middlebury from 1967 to 1980. He had worked at Goshen Sash and Door from 1949 to 1967 and at Doors and Drawers from 1984 until his retirement in 2004. He was a very active lifetime member of the Goshen Jaycees. He had served as president of the local club and vice-president at the state level. He volunteered with the Camp Fire Girls, Boy Scouts, Salvation Army and Red Cross. He was a member of the Goshen/Bexbach Sister City Committee since 1980. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, July 7, at the funeral home. A 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 8, 2010, funeral service will be conducted at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home with Dr. Paul Koepke officiating. Burial will follow in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to Goshen Care at Home Hospice.
