Harold Lemar Yost, 90, of Indiantown, Florida, and beloved brother of Dolores (Charles) Emmitt went home to be with our Lord and Savior September 4, 2018.
He was born March 29, 1928 in Delphi, to Peter R. and Clara (Ganger) Yost.
Survivors also include a nephew, Mark Emmitt and three nieces, Laura (William) Wolfington, of Rapid City, Michigan, Leslie (Mark) Nagel of Columbia, South Carolina and Lynn (Steven) Walton of Atlanta, Georgia.
Harold graduated from Goshen High School where he was a member of the orchestra and served as president of his senior class. He attended Manchester University until drafted in the U.S. Army. He served from 1950-52 in the infantry in Korea during the Korean War.
Following his return to the U.S. he attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. Later he worked as an electrical design draftsman in Cleveland. But his career choice was always aviation- he wanted to fly! He enrolled at LeTourneau University first to become a licensed aircraft and engine mechanic, then to become a licensed pilot and finally a licensed commercial pilot. Over the following years, Harold’s career in aviation led to flying positions in Springfield, Illinois, Pontiac, Michigan, Middletown, Ohio, Fort Lauderdale and Lantana, both in Florida. He also took many, many hours to rebuild a wrecked Stearman Bi-wing airplane, which he flew for several years. Harold accumulated an astounding number of hours over his career, more than 17,000 hours of flight time. He also found time for his faith and service as he drove the church bus picking up children for Sunday school.
Family and friends will be received Friday, September 14, 2018, from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. service at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.
Burial will follow at West Goshen Cemetery.
