Harold E. Weaver

Harold E. Weaver, 90, formerly of Carter Road, Goshen, died Sunday afternoon, December 11, 2011, at IU Health Goshen Hospital. He was born June 6, 1921 in New Paris to the late Noble and Florence (Beaver) Weaver. He married Rose Marie Goodell February 21, 1946 in Goshen. She died October 8, 2011. He is survived by two daughters, Elaine (Tom) Evans of Avon, and Anne M. (Ron) Mullet, Denver, North Carolina; three sons, David (Patricia) Weaver of Hampshire, Illinois, Robert "Mike" (Pamela) Weaver of Goshen, and James "Greg" (life partner, Phinpaseuth "Bay" Sengsommaly) Weaver of South Bend; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Catherine Patterson of South Bend. Mr. Weaver graduated as valedictorian in 1939 from New Paris High School. Between 1939 and 1951 he took several additional college courses, including some at Goshen College. He served with the US Army from 1942-45 with the Anti-Aircraft Division Pacific Theater as a radar technician, which was in its infancy, and then with Radar Command as an instructor for this new technology. He transferred to Army Finance Corp. for the final seven months of his tour. In 1945 Mr. Weaver joined Liberty Homes, Inc. as Accountant and Office Manager. He held various management positions for 27 years, including the last 12 as Vice President of Production and Product Development and Design. He served on several committees with the Mobile Home Manufacturers Association to develop safety codes for the mobile home industry. He was the founding president in 1983 of the Elkhart River Restoration and served in that capacity for 30 years. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, December 14 at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home where a 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 15, 2011, funeral service will be conducted. Pastoral Assistant Pamela Kling, First United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial, with military honors by the Goshen Honor Guard, will follow in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be given to Elkhart River Restoration.
