Harold R. Neumann, 75, of Goshen, died unexpectedly on Thursday afternoon, February 12, 2009, in Sarasota, Florida. He was born in Metamora, Illinois, on November 14, 1933, to Emanuel and Martha (Springer) Neumann. He married Joanne E. Herbst on May 22, 1955 in Metamora, Illinois. She survives. A farmer, Mr. Neumann moved to Goshen in June of 2004, coming from Metamora where he had farmed his grandfather’s farm for 50 years. He was a member of College Mennonite Church, Goshen and a former member of Metamora Mennonite Church. He volunteered at Oaklawn and had served on the boards of Mennonite General Board, Maple Lawn Homes and Grainland Board of Directors Grain Co-op, both in Eureka, Illinois. He served with MCC PAX program in Europe and the Middle East from 1952 to 1954. He is survived by his wife, Joanne; two daughters, Laurie (Roger) Nafziger and Lisa (Bryan) Heinz, both of Goshen; two son, Mark (Gail) Neumann and Kurt (Cheryl) Neumann, both of Metamora, Illinois; ten grandchildren; a sister, Sylvia (Dr. James) Miller of Wakarusa and a brother, Roger (Luetta) Neumann of Naples, Florida and Goshen. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 15, from 5 to 7 p.m., in the Koinonia Room at College Mennonite Church, Goshen. A 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 17, 2009, memorial service will be held in Metamora, Illinois, at the Metamora Mennonite Church. Rev. Mike Danner will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Hickory Point Cemetery, Metamora, Illinois. Memorial contributions may be made to MCC or Goshen College.
