Harold E. Mapes

Harold E. Mapes, 66, of Sturgis, Michigan, died Monday morning, January 30, 2006, at Goshen General Hospital.  He had been ill since October 2005.   He was born November 30, 1939, in Ashland, Illinois, to Marvin and Etta (Spears) Mapes.  On September 5, 1959, in Marissa, Illinois, he married Carolyn J. Kinzel.  She survives.   Mr. Mapes retired in 1994, after 34 years, as manager of the 800 Center for Kirsch in Sturgis.   He was a member of the United Church of Christ in Palatine, Florida, and the FOP in Centreville, Michigan.  He was an active bowler in several leagues and he loved to fish.   He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; two sons, Bruce Alan (Lillina) Mapes of Hanover Park, Illinois and Harold E. (Deborah) Mapes, Jr. of Cary, Illinois; a granddaughter, Heather Mapes; three grandsons, Steve, Benjamin and David Mapes; and a brother Daniel Mapes of Kilbourne, Illinois.   He was preceded in death by a sister, Glenna Middleton.   There will be no services at this time.
