Harold R. Hershberger

August 20, 1913 — February 5, 2008

Harold R. Hershberger, 94, of Topeka, died Tuesday evening, February 5, 2008 at his home after five months of failing health. He was born on August 20, 1913, in Elkhart County, to John and Cora (Kindy) Hershberger.  He married Viola Gooch on March 30, 1933 in Sturgis, Michigan.  She died May 16, 1971.  On November 30, 1974, he married Florine Price McNutt who preceded him on July 2, 1989.  He then married Mary Eby on December 19, 1992.  She survives in Bristol. A lifetime resident of the area, Mr. Hershberger was a farmer, worked at Bendix, and an independent milk hauler into Constantine Creamery and M & R Creamery (now Ross Laboratories) in Sturgis.  He was a member of the Milk Haulers Association and Goshen Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife, Mary; two daughters, Shirley (David) Aymer of Mission,Texas and Tannice (Dan) Lehman of Topeka; two sons, Harold D. Hershberger of White Pigeon, Michigan, and Anthony W. (Brenda) Hershberger of Belbrook, Ohio; four step-children, Flora Metzger of Goshen, Paul Romine of Ligonier, Russell Stutzman in Bristol, and Betty Miller of Middlebury; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Iris Dills of Goshen;  and a brother, Roland Hershberger of Goshen. He was preceded in death by his wives, Viola and Florine; four sisters, Iva Weaver, Lila Schrock, Beulah and Betty Hershberger; and two brothers, Albert and John Hershberger; two step-daughters, Jeanie Coley and Barbara Homood. Friends will be received 1 to 3 p.m., Saturday, February 10, 2008, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home where a 3:00 p.m. funeral service will be held.  Tom Leach of Middlebury will officiate. Burial will be in Oakridge Cemetery, Goshen, following cremation. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.
