Harold Wade Hartman, 93, of Goshen, passed away Friday, April 8, 2022, at his home, surrounded by family.
He was born May 31, 1928, in Glendale, California, to Oscar and Mildred (Bixel) Hartman.
On September 4, 1949 he married Catherine E. Bohn in Pandora, Ohio. She died November 9, 2019.
Survivors include three children, Jolene Ritchie and Rita (John) Harnish, both of Elkhart and Steve (Laura) Hartman of Fishers; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 70 years, Catherine Hartman; a daughter, Annette Moneyheffer and two brothers, Gordon and Kenneth Hartman.
Mr. Hartman was a math teacher at Northside Jr. High School for many years and a member of Hively Avenue Mennonite Church.
He filled his life with the things he loved including woodworking, music, hiking, camping and traveling. Harold faced life’s challenges with a positive outlook and a sense of humor. He had a gift for engaging with others and lighting up a room.
Harold and Kate built a house together on the Peace River in Florida where they spent many happy winters. They loved the location so much they named it Paradise.
According to Harold and Kate’s wishes their ashes will be mixed and scattered during a private family service.
Memorial donations may be given to Camp Friedenswald Youth Program. A butterfly sculpture has already been erected at the camp in Harold and Kate’s memory.
