Harold E. Bauman

 Harold E. Bauman, 93, of Goshen passed away Monday, March 28, 2016 at IU Health Goshen Hospital.

He was born May 16, 1922 in Iron Springs, Pennsylvania to Norman and Ella (Shoup) Bauman.

Harold was a student of the Bible, pastor, counselor, workshop leader and conference speaker.

Reared in Columbiana County, Ohio, he attended Goshen College (1946) and Goshen Biblical Seminary in Indiana.  He did graduate work at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Kentucky (Th.M., 1962), Union Theological Seminary and Teachers College, Columbia University, New York, NY (Ed.D., 1972).

After 11 years in the pastoral ministry in the Orrville (Ohio) Mennonite Church, Harold served as Campus Pastor at Goshen College for 16 years.  As a staff member of the Mennonite Board of Congregational Ministries, he served as a teacher and consultant in the areas of leadership and worship for nearly 14 years, working with congregational leaders across North America.

Involved in the Holy Spirit renewal movement since the early 70s, Harold has spoken in conferences and led workshops for pastors and elders.  He served for more than a dozen years as the liaison between Mennonite Renewal Services and the official bodies of the Mennonite Church.  Harold also served as overseer for a number of churches.

An emerging congregation in Dublin, Ireland, called Harold and his wife, Elizabeth (Hershberger), to help in leadership training beginning in July 1988 for two years.

Harold is survived by his wife, Carolyn Hertzler and his children, Philip (Connie Leinbach) of Goshen, John (Susan Ebersole) of Hastings-on-Hudson, NY, David of Lancaster, PA, and Rebecca (Jeanne Keenan) of South Pasadena, CA.  He was very proud of his grandchildren, Jeffery (deceased), Mark (Margaret Knutsen) of Findlay, OH, Clara of Brooklyn, NY, Anna of Oberlin, OH, Matthew (Charity Grimes) of Pittsburgh, PA, Benjamin of Goshen, IN, Corey and Emmy of South Pasadena, CA.

He was preceded in  death by his first wife, Elizabeth Hershberger Bauman, February 9, 1995, and his brother, Norman and sister Ruth.

Visitation will be Saturday, April 9, from 12 to 3 p.m. at College Mennonite Church, Goshen, with a memorial service starting at 5 p.m.

A private graveside service will take place at Violett Cemetery, Goshen.

Memorial donations may be made to Indiana Michigan Mennonite Conference or United Cancer Services of Elkhart County.
