Harlan D. McCreary, 77, of Elkhart, died unexpectedly in Elkhart early Sunday morning, August 12, 2012. He had been battling cancer. He was born April 4, 1935 in Middlebury to the late Lloyd Harold and Kathryn (Vincent) McCreary. He married Shelby Curtis October 3, 1964 in South Bend. She survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Stacey (Corey) Carrillo of Chandler, Arizona; two granddaughters, Katherine and Camryn; and two brothers, Richard (Shirley) McCreary of Elkhart and David (Joyce) McCreary of Goshen. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Ethel Cripe, E. Kay McCreary and Charlene Jennings and two brothers, Lloyd Jr. and Dallas McCreary. A lifetime area resident, Mr. McCreary worked 45 years, as a machinist, at Western Rubber until his retirement in 1997. He and his wife had wintered in Chandler, Arizona the past seven years. His body will be cremated and a service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation.
