H. Armida Spyker, 85, of Goshen, died Tuesday morning, June 9, 2009, at Greencroft Healthcare. She had been ill since March with pancreatic cancer. She was born on February 19, 1924 in Bath Township, Allen County, Ohio, to John P. and Carrie (Miller) Adams. She married Rev. Edward H. Spyker on October 17, 1947 in Toledo, Ohio. He preceded her in death on December 2, 1995. A Goshen resident for the past seven years, Mrs. Spyker worked as an audit clerk for Sears, and as a bank teller for Metropolitan Bank, both in Lima, Ohio. She received her LPN Certificate from the Ohio State Board of Nursing and worked at Willard Area Hospital in Willard, Ohio, Bloomville Nursing Center in Bloomville, Ohio, and Royal Plantation Nursing Center in Leesville, Ohio. She was a member of the Tiffin Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Tiffin, Ohio and an associate member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Fostoria, Ohio. She served as treasurer of the Ohio Sandusky Conference W.S.W.S. from 1966 to 1970, the East Ohio Conference, Mansfield District United Methodist Women from 1971 to 1975, and the East Ohio Conference, Cambridge District United Methodist Women from 1983 to 1985. She is survived by two sons, Bernard (Diana) Spyker of Fostoria, Ohio, and Rev. Ronald (Cynde) Spyker of Bristol, Indiana; five grandchildren, Nicole (Chad) Rice of Fostoria, Ohio, Brooke (Kerry) Johnson of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Leslie (Joshua) Jones of North Royalton, Ohio, Ryan Spyker of Elkhart, Indiana, and Nathan Spyker of Bristol, Indiana; two sisters, Donna Leedy of Lima, Ohio, and Marcella (Joseph) Jamison of Elida, Ohio; and a brother, Vernon Adams of Rochester, New York. She was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Betty Bice and a brother, Roger Adams. Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, June 11, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, and from 3 to 8 p.m., Friday, June 12 at Mann-Hare-Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, Ohio. An 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 13, 2009, funeral service will be conducted at Wesley United Methodist Church, Fostoria, Ohio, with Rev. Michael Malcosky officiating. Burial will be in Lewis Grove Cemetery, Beaverdam, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to the Charles Munson School Fund at Jefferson Brethren Church, Goshen; or Wesley Center Day Care and Pre-school, Fostoria, Ohio.
