Gwen May Shelly

Gwen May Shelly, 97, of Goshen, formerly of Elkhart, died early Wednesday morning, November 30, 2005, at Elkhart General Hospital.   She was born September 16, 1908, in Topeka, Indiana, to Rollie and Ocie (Stroman) Kauffman.  On June 17, 1932, in Indianapolis, she married Marion B. Shelly.  He died April 13, 1987.   Mrs. Shelly lived in the area all of her life.  She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Elkhart and a former Communion Stewart at the church.  She was also a charter member of Elcona Country Club and a member of the Union League Club, Chicago.  She was a contributor to the Boys and Girls Club also.   She is survived by three sons, Dr. Richard Shelly of St. George, Utah, Thomas Shelly of Corpus Christi, Texas and Terry (Sylvia) Shelly of Bristol, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.   She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion, and a sister, Margarite Blough.   Friends will be received 4 to 7 pm, Friday, December 2, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.   A 10 am, Saturday, December 3, 2005, funeral service will be held at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.  Pastor Bill Hemmig of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Elkhart will officiate.   Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen.   Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.
