Guy E. Alfrey, 82, of Goshen, passed away Friday, December 4, 2015, at Elkhart Hospice House after a brief illness with cancer.
He was born October 7, 1933 in St. Joseph, Michigan to Ralph and Edna (Shannon-Alfrey) Firestone.
He is survived by a daughter, Shonda (Bob Shanholt) Hostetler and a son, Doug Alfrey, both of Goshen; four grandsons, four great-grandchildren; a longtime companion, Barb Swinehart, Shipshewana; former wife, Bonnie Alfrey, Goshen; two sisters, Rosemary Hawn and Beverly Hawn, both of Goshen; and a brother, William R. (Ruth) Alfrey, New Paris.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Sue Firestone Manley and an infant brother, Gene Alfrey.
A longtime area resident, Mr. Alfrey worked on the production line in the RV industry until retiring. Following retirement he continued to work as a groundskeeper at Carriage RV and then at LifeStyle RV, both in Middlebury.
He was known as a man who lived more of his life outdoors than indoors. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. For many years he supplied local bait stores, especially Travel Tender, with live bait. He was a well known bowler in the Michiana area until 2002. He enjoyed making people laugh and made friends wherever he went.
Friends may call Wednesday, December 9, 2015, from 2 until the 6 p.m. memorial service at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Pastor Carl Adams will officiate.
Cremation will take place at Yoder-Culp Crematory.
Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice House of Elkhart County.
