Gregory K. Mayes, 67, of Goshen, died Wednesday evening, April 29, 2015 at home after an extended illness. He was born February 15, 1948 in Alma, Michigan to Roland and Ellowee (Heminger) Mayes. On March 14, 1973 he married Lynda Colleen Agutter. She survives along with a daughter, Starrla (Jeremy) McDonald, of Ada, Michigan; a son, Jon (Jennifer) Mayes, of Ft. Worth, Texas; a granddaughter, Jewel Mayes; twin grandsons, Hunter and Oakley Mayes; and a sister, Marsha (Gwyn) Bontrager, of Shipshewana. Mr. Mayes went to I.T.T. for engineering and later received his bachelor's degree from I.U.South Bend. He worked as a manager of documentation for Miles Lab in Mishawaka and later for Bayer Healthcare. He was a former member of Christiana Creek and Maplecrest Country Clubs. Greg served in the Air Force National Guard out of Ft. Wayne, and was operations manager and gave flight lessons at the Auburn Airport. He was a part of the ham radio community and enjoyed sailing with the Diamond Lake sailing club. His love of music inspired him to learn to play guitar. Visitation will be from 1 to 3:45 p.m. Sunday, May 3, 2015 prior to the 4 p.m. funeral service at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, 1911 South Main St., Goshen. Cremation will follow the service. Memorial contributions may be directed to Goshen Home Care and Hospice, the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
