Grace Fern Weldy, 93, of Goshen, died Tuesday afternoon, April 13, 2010 at Greencroft Healthcare, of cancer. Just three weeks before, she was living independently at Greencroft Manor IV. Mrs. Weldy was born March 24, 1917, the third daughter of Fred W. and Martha (Beutler) Bixler at their home on State Road 19 between Wakarusa and Elkhart. She married Levon Ray Weldy on November 20, 1941 at her home. As a busy farm wife and mother, she lived a quiet life of service and encouragement to her husband, who had M.S. for twenty five years, and to any neighbors. She enjoyed writing, reading, poetry and gardening. She was a 60 year member of Yellow Creek Mennonite Church, known for her thoughtful cards, marking many events in the lives of fellow members and many missionaries. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1999, her sisters Mary Leichty Eby and Bertha Shantz. Surviving are her children Bonnie Grace (John) Miesel of Morley, Michigan, Fred Levon (Joyce) of Stevensville, Montana, Franklin Lee (Julie) of Goshen and a sister Ruth (Ray) Tyson of Goshen; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, April 16, at the Meetinghouse at Greencroft Healthcare North. The farewell celebration will be held at Yellow Creek Mennonite Church at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 17, 2010, with viewing one hour prior to the service followed by a meal for friends and family. Memorial donations may be made to the Mennonite Disaster Service.
