Grace I. Slabaugh, 97, of Goshen, died Sunday morning, January 22, 2012, at Courtyard Healthcare. She was born August 9, 1914 in Manson, Iowa, to the late Amos and Amelia (Egli) Martin. She married Paul T. Slabaugh December 28, 1933 in Manson. He died June 3, 2005. Surviving are three sons, Phil (Rosalind) Slabaugh of Goshen, Don (Ruth) Slabaugh of Kalispell, Montana, and Steve (Alice) Slabaugh of Goshen; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Raymond Martin of Lafayette. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jane Garber, three sisters, Doris, Schmidt, Ruth Everson and Lola Vertack; and three brothers, Lawrence, Howard and Bob Martin. A homemaker and Goshen resident since 1933, Mrs. Slabaugh was a member of College Mennonite Church, Goshen. She had worked as a cook at Millersburg High School for 12 years. Grace was an avid quilter, making quilts for her grandchildren and donating to the Mennonite Relief Sale. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, January 26, in the Gathering Room at College Mennonite Church where an 11:30 a.m., memorial service will be conducted on Friday, January 27, 2012. Pastors Phil Waite and Pamela Yoder will officiate. A private family burial will be in Rock Run Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Goshen Care at Home Hospice or College Mennonite Church.
