Gordon R. Yoder, 97, of Goshen died Monday, January 30, 2023 at Greencroft Healthcare.
He was born September 29, 1925 in Columbiana, Ohio to Noah B. and Florence (Hendricks) Yoder.
On October 1, 1948 he married Esther A. Detwiler in Willmington, Pennsylvania.
Gordon is survived by three children, Diane (Bob) Hershberger, and Sanford (Julie) Yoder, both of Elkhart, and Thomas (Margaret Delaney) Yoder of Grand Junction, Colorado; six grandchildren, Jason Hershberger, Jaime Hershberger, Jordan (Destiny Behny) Hershberger, Jennifer (Jordan Shaw) Hershberger, Katy (Ben) Holdread and Kelly (Josh) Hooley; and five great-grandchildren, Taylor and Violet Holdread, Hudson and Maven Hooley, and Trig Hershberger.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Michael Yoder; and a brother, William Yoder.
Gordon was a 1943 graduate of North Lima High School, Lima, Ohio. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946 as a signalman. Following his military service, he attended Goshen College. He worked for St. Joe Valley Bank for 18 years working his way up to Vice President.
He then returned to Goshen College and worked in the Office of College Development from 1972 until his retirement in 2004. Gordon was a member of College Mennonite Church.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, March 25, 2023 at College Mennonite Church at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends beginning at 9:30 a.m. prior to the service.
A private burial will take place at Prairie Street Cemetery, Elkhart.
Memorial gifts may be directed to the Goshen College Marine Biology Program.
