Goldie Leona Hostetler

September 16, 1920 — August 1, 2016

Goldie Leona Hostetler, 95, of Goshen, passed away Monday, August 1, 2016, at Greencroft Healthcare after an extended decline in health.

She was born September 16, 1920 in Rockton, Pennsylvania to John and Alice (Wingard) Hummel.

On October 27, 1956 she married Alvin Hostetler in Balodgahan M.P. India.  He died January 29, 2003.

Goldie is survived by two daughters, Caroll Jewell Beall of Warsaw and Mari Alice (Kim) Glick of Goshen; a son, Philip Scott Hostetler of Goshen; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Gloria Hostetler; a brother, Chester Hummel; two half brothers, Chancy and Charlie Hummel; five sisters, Pearl Hjerpe, Ann Crowe, Ida and Ruth Hummel, Mabel King, and three half sisters, Alda Baker, Lillian Thompson and Ada Liken.

A long time Goshen resident, she graduated from Eastern Mennonite College, Harrisonburg, Virginia and earned her master’s degree from St. Mary’s, South Bend.

A member of Berkey Avenue Fellowship, Goldie served as a missionary in India for 10 years.  Upon her return to the U.S. she taught at Horizon Learning Center for 19 years.  At Greencroft she enjoyed the Bible studies, music programs and craft class.

Goldie’s greatest love was for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  She lived her life for Him.  That love flowed out through her to others.  She was known at Greencroft Healthcare for her warm smile, her gratefulness to those who cared for her and her words of encouragement.  She loved her husband, her children and their families, and she prayed faithfully for them.

Friends may call Friday, August 5, 2016 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at The Meetinghouse on the Goshen Greencroft Campus.  An 11 a.m. Saturday, August 6, 2016, memorial service will be conducted at The Meetinghouse.

A family burial at Townline Cemetery, Shipshewana, will precede the memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Go Forth Ministries International for grandson, Ryan and Joy Glick’s mission work in Malawi.
