Gladys Opal Zimmerman, 89, of Elkhart, died Thursday morning, December 17, 2009, at her home. She was born in Keokee, Virginia, on August 23, 1920, to Charles and Bertha Mae (Mitchell) DuMond. She married William H. Zimmerman on March 23, 1941, in Canton, Illinois. He survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Esther Mae (Doug) Plodowski of Goshen, and Edie Palmer (Tom) Hamilton of Elkhart; a son, John (Kathy) Zimmerman of Grand Rapids, Michigan; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and a brother, Charles (Grace) DuMond of Noblesville. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Paul Abraham Zimmerman and a sister, Lois Stover. Mrs. Zimmerman, attended Manchester College and was a member of the Sugar Grove Church in Goshen where she had worked in the church library. She taught Sunday School for many years at the First Baptist Church in Goshen. She was a partner and office manager of her husband’s medical practice in Syracuse, Indiana, and Dublin, Indiana. Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, December 18, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. A 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 19, 2009, funeral service will be conducted at Sugar Grove Church, Goshen, with retired minister Cary Perdue officiating. Burial will follow in Sugar Grove Cemetery, Goshen.
