Gladys P. Lacounte

Gladys P. LaCounte, 96, of Three Rivers, Michigan, died Thursday afternoon, May 29, 2014, at her home. She had been in failing health the past four years. She was born April 30, 1918 in Detroit, Michigan, to Earl and Ethel (Paff) Roderick. On October 25, 1936 she married Delbert LaCounte. He preceded her in death on July 11, 2001. She is survived by one son; Earl Lewis (Jane) LaCounte, of Goshen, three grandchildren; Marc (Lori) LaCounte, Shayne (Karen) LaCounte, Ryan Moore, and four great-grandchildren; Slade, Austin, Jacob, and Brendan. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Delbert, and a son, Sheldon Ray LaCounte. Mrs. LaCounte lived the last 36 years at Corey Lake, in the home she built with her husband. She previously resided in Elkhart. She was a longtime member at Jones United Methodist Church, where she served as treasurer. She retired after working many years as a secretary and bookkeeper for Nu-Day Paint and Best Realty, both of Elkhart. Gladys will be well remembered for her large family meals and canning and freezing fruits and vegetables. She founded and organized a group of volunteers who sewed and knitted many gloves, mittens, blankets and clothes for any child in need. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2014, and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service Monday, June 2, 2014, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen. Pastor Carolyn Fischer will officiate. Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery, Millersburg. Memorial contributions may be directed to Camp Eberhart, Camp Wakeshma, both of Three Rivers, or the American Heart Association.
