Glayds E.Anderson, 88, formerly of South 12th St., Goshen, died Thursday morning, November 15, 2007, at The Maples where she had been since January. She was born in Rensselaer, Indiana, on February 10, 1919, to Silas and Clara (Zook) Toombs. She married Robert L. Anderson on December 27, 1940 in Des Moines, Iowa. He died October 22, 1987. A 1936 graduate of New Paris High School she also attended Fort Wayne Business College. She retired as a bookkeeper from Maplecrest Country Club. Mrs. Anderson was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Goshen; a charter member of Maplecrest Country Club; the American Legion Auxiliary; Delphians; and Mary & Martha Circle at First United Methodist Church. She volunteered at Oaklawn and helped children with reading at Chamberlain Elementary School where she met First Lady Barbara Bush. She enjoyed bowling and golfing. She is survived by a daughter, Nancy L. Hutchinson of Lafayette, Indiana; two sons, Richard L. (Gayle) Anderson of Melbourne Florida and John L. (Susan) Anderson of Berwyn, Illinois; a grandson, Jamie Anderson; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Silas Toombs of Mishawaka. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; four sisters, Hazel Conn, Sally Woodall, Mary Oswalt and Martha Allan; and four brothers, Harley, Menno, David and Earl Toombs. Friends will be received 2 to 3 p.m., Sunday, November 18. A 3:00 p.m. memorial service will be held in the Garden Room at First United Methodist Church on Sunday, November 18, 2007. Pastor Ed Fritz and Pastoral Assistant Pamela Kling of the church will officiate. Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be given to First United Methodist Church of Goshen Hospital Foundation, Home Care Division.
