Gilbert R. Rhodes

Gilbert R. Rhodes, 101, of Goshen was reunited with his beloved wife, Lois and loved granddaughter and her husband, Leslie and Craig Coffman when he entered Heaven Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at his home.

He was born July 23, 1923 in New England, West Virginia to Rodney and Maude (Sheets) Rhodes.

On February 23, 1946 he married Lois Hanlin in Parkersburg, West Virginia. She died June 20, 2018, after 72 years of marriage.

He is survived by a daughter, Barbara Kusinitz of Erie, Colorado; a son, Roy (Letty) Rhodes of Goshen; a grandson, Michael Rhodes; and two great-grandchildren, Anna and Lillian Coffman.

Along with his wife, Mr. Rhodes was preceded in death by his siblings, Mae Connelly, Harold, Hazel, Clarence, Denzel, Willard and Rodney Rhodes; and a granddaughter, Leslie (Craig) Coffman.

A World War II U.S. Navy veteran, Mr. Rhodes served from March 1943 until February 1946. He worked for Ford Motors for 32 years with building security. After retirement he was a custodian at Shipshewana Scott Elementary School in Shipshewana.

Gilbert enjoyed golf in his spare time. He was a member of The Gideons, Goshen Lions Club, and was a previous member of Shipshewana Church of the Nazarene. He currently attended Nappanee Missionary Church.

The family wishes to thank Traditions Hospice, especially Lisa, hospice nurse, and Seniors Helping Seniors for the support and care during these last months, especially director, Becky and caregiver, Tammy.

Services will be held Friday, August 16, 2024 at Nappanee Missionary Church, with visitation beginning at 9 a.m. An 11 a.m. funeral service will be conducted by Pastor Jason Rohde.

Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
