George R. Henkler, Jr.

George R. Henkler, Jr., 75, of Goshen, died early Wednesday morning, April 30, 2008, at his home. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on February 22, 1933 to George R. and Marguerite (Seifer) Henkler, Sr.  He married Mary M. Walker Parrott on March 25, 1995 in Mishawaka.  She survives. Mr. Henkler graduated as salutatorian of the Jimtown High School in 1951 where he played basketball.  He worked a printer at Truth Publishing for 35 years.  He served in the US Army during the Korean War in Germany. A Goshen resident since October 2005, Mr. Henkler was a member of the Elkhart County Conservation Club.  He enjoyed fishing, gardening, bargain shopping and coin collecting.  He helped his children build their homes. He is survived by his wife, Mary; a daughter, Diana (Thomas) Weinkauf of Jimtown; a son, Craig (Candace) Henkler of Goshen; a step-daughter, June (Peter) Mierau of Alamo, California, a step-son, Dale (Debra) Parrott of Goshen; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, James (Patsy) Henkler of Elkhart. Friends may call 1 to 2 p.m., Saturday, May 3 at Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church, Goshen, where a 2:00 p.m. funeral service will be conducted.  Pastor Russ Hunsberger of the Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church will officiate. Burial will be in South Lawn Cemetery, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church, American Diabetes Association or American Heart Association.
