George W. Hay III ,87, of Goshen died Tuesday morning, October 21, 2014, at his home. He was born, October 3, 1927 in Goshen to the late George W. Hay, Jr. and Ruby (McMahon) Hay. On Sept. 4, 1975, George married Marilyn (Maston) Kortie, at Goshen's First Presbyterian Church. She survives along with his two sons, Mark Hay of Goshen and Matthew (Debbie) Hay of Chandler, Ariz; two step-children, Lisa Miller of Goshen and Thomas Kortie of Indianapolis; two grandchildren, Matthew S. Hay and Alexa Hay and a step-granddaughter, Kristy Selbe; two great-grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren; a sister, Helen Wheeler of Oviedo, Fla. and a brother, Stephen (Phyllis) Hay of Tucson, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John Hay. A lifelong Goshen resident, Mr. Hay graduated from Goshen High School in 1945 and graduated from Culver Naval School in the summer of 1945. He went on to serve in the Navy from 1945 to 1948. He served in the Pacific on the SS Sea Devil 400. He was a past Commander and life member of American Legion Post #30. Mr. Hay attended the University of Utah from 1948-50. He worked for his father at Hay Oil Company from 1950 to 1971. In 1971 he started at Starcraft and moved on to become production manager for Advantage Vans. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder and a deacon. He was also a member of Maplecrest Country Club, the National Rifle Association, the Amateur Trapshooting Association and a 67 year member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots' Association. Friends may call Sunday, October 26, 2014, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and one hour prior to the Monday, October 27, 2014, 11 a.m. funeral service at First Presbyterian Church, Goshen. Pastor Alan Griffin will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Violett Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Goshen or Goshen Care at Home Hospice.
