George A. Garner

George A. Garner, 80, formerly of Goshen, died late Sunday evening, September 3, 2006, at Rosewood Terrace, Elkhart.   He was born February 18, 926, in Goshen, Indiana, to George A. and Beulah (Thomas) Garner.   A 1944 Goshen High School graduate, Mr. Garner, served with the US Army from 1944 to 1968, in Germany, Japan, Turkey, Afghanistan, Vietnam, Lebanon, and Bolivia.  He was stationed at Fort George G. Meade in Maryland.  He retired from the Army on June 30, 1968, and returned to Indiana.  He received a Combat Infantry Badge, a Bronze Star and several battle stars from Europe, Korea and Vietnam.   He graduated from Indiana University South Bend on May 17, 1972.  He was employed by the Internal Revenue Service as a Revenue Agent for 16 years before retiring on April 30, 1988, in Indianapolis.   On October 3, 1977, he earned his Certified Public Accountant Certificate from the State of Indiana and practiced as a public accountant until December 31, 1996, at which time he retired.   He was a member of the Indiana CPA Society and the American CPA Association, the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge, the VFW Post and the American Legion.  He enjoyed bowling and golfing.   He is survived by two sisters, Arliss Sheler and Marianne Metzler, both of Goshen, five nieces and three nephews.   He was preceded in death by his father, George in 1980 and his mother, Beulah in 1983.   Friends will be received 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, September 6, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.   An 11:30 a.m., Thursday, September 7, 2006, funeral service will be held at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.  Bishop Shawn Huxford of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints will officiate.   Burial will be in Olive West Cemetery,Wakarusa.   Memorial contributions may be given to the American Legion or the VFW Post.
