George H. Carlson

George H. Carlson, 85, of Goshen, died early Tuesday morning, January 31, 2012, at Greencroft Healthcare. He had been in failing health the past five years. He was born February 3, 1926 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Herman and Vera (Sorensen) Carlson. He married Maxine M. McCulloch on March 24, 1945 in Romeo, Michigan. She died January 1, 2012. He is survived by two daughters, Juanita Graser of Taylor, Michigan and Connie (Donald) Garber of Goshen; a son, Bruce (Pam) Carlson of Rochester Hills, Michigan; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Lucille (Thomas) Frank of Georgetown, Ontario; and a brother, Rueben Douhan of Tierp, Sweden. He was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Carlson. Mr. Carlson moved to Goshen in 1989 from Lima, Ohio, where he had worked as a Tool Room superintendent for General Dynamics until his retirement in 1988. He was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church. A veteran, he served with the Army in Austria as Military Police following World War II. Friends may call an hour before the 2 p.m., Friday, February 3, 2012, funeral service at The Gathering Place at Evergreen Place on the Goshen Greencroft Campus. Pastor Dick Rinearson, St. Mark's United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial of cremains will be at Greencroft Memorial Prayer Garden, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark's United Methodist Church or Greencroft Goshen Foundation.
