Gene J. Leinbach

Goshen

Gene J. Leinbach, 87, of Goshen, passed away Friday, Sept. 24 at his home.

He was born Nov. 16, 1933 in North Lima, Ohio to John and Ada Mae (Blosser) Leinbach.

On Sept. 20, 1953 he married Shirley Ann Smeltzer in Wakarusa.  She died Jan. 12, 2021.

He is survived by three children, Connie (Phil) Bauman, Melody (Roland) Purdy and Randy Leinbach, all of Goshen; five grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and a brother, Cleo (Thelma) Leinbach, Elkhart.

Along with his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeff Bauman; a great-grandson, Elijah Weathers and two siblings, Earl and Kathryn.

An avid runner and biker, Gene was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather.  He was a member of Waterford Mennonite Church, Goshen.

He worked in research and development for Liberty Homes for 30 years.

Visitation will be Tuesday, Sept. 28, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home where a funeral service will be held Wednesday, Sept. 29 at 9 a.m.  Pastor Neil Amstutz will officiate.

Burial will follow in Olive West Cemetery, Elkhart.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Waterford Mennonite Church Mission Fund.
