Gaylia F. “Gay” Farrand, 91, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at Goshen Hospital.
She was born at home in LaGrange County, Indiana on May 1, 1933, the only child to Renner D. and Henrietta (Jenke) Mehl.
Gay graduated from Goshen High School in 1951. On May 25, 1952, she married her high school sweetheart, Lowell L. Farrand, at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, Goshen.
She is survived by her husband, Lowell; two sons, Grant (Rita) Farrand, Montross, Virginia and James (Beth) Farrand, Salem, Oregon; three grandchildren Matthew (Lauren) Farrand, Kendra Lowe, and Devin (Ariel Herwitz) Farrand; and four great-grandchildren, Connor and Brynlee Warnicke, and Michael and Noah Farrand. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Stephen Farrand.
Throughout her life, Gay was a dedicated and hardworking individual. She enjoyed a diverse career, working as a floral designer, a sales clerk, and ultimately as a secretary, retiring from Troyer Foods in 1991. She and Lowell raised their children in Goshen, then moved to Ligonier in 1976 where they lived in the home she designed until moving to Greencroft in 2022.
Gay was an active member of her community and pursued various interests. In the 1960s, she was involved in the Goshen YWCA. During the 1970s, she participated in the Bible Study Fellowship and the Women's Society. She had a passion for creativity and loved crafting, painting, music, and spending time reading inspirational books.
Gay’s faith was an important part of her life. Her faith shone in her through her kindness to others and her positive outlook on life. She also shared a unique interest with her husband as a member of several Experimental Aircraft Clubs.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation will take place at Yoder-Culp Crematory.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, April 19, 2025, from 2 p.m. until the 3 p.m. memorial service at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.
